The Dark Knight Rises opens tomorrow!

The finale in Christopher Nolan’s trilogy of Batman reboots comes to theaters starting at midnight tonight.  The Dark Knight Rises looks to be the most anticipated movie this summer maybe even edging out the summer’s earlier blockbuster Marvel’s The Avengers.

Advanced ticket sales have said to be at $25 million before the flick has even opened. The film is set to open in a near record 4,404 theaters! (The first place record is held by a “sparkle vampire movie” from 2010, which was in 4,468 theaters). Nolan bucked the current trend and did not shoot TDKR in 3D, instead opting for 2D IMAX cameras instead. The IMAX format has been growing in popularity for the past couple of years.  Theater owners are now racing to get more of their theaters converted to these larger screens, which really should be called “baby IMAX” in my opinion. IMAX midnight showings where some of the first to sellout and now a secondary market has begun reselling those tickets at an incredibility inflated rate.

Batman fans are some of the most passionate I have ever met. Say what you will about the legions of Star Wars fans, Trekkies (or Trekkers), Twi-hards, Potterheads, or just comic book fans, when it comes to Batman fanboys and girls their passion is intense.  By now it has been widely reported what happened to a few critics who gave TDKR bad reviews on RottenTomatoes.com. My point is people who love Batman – LOVE Batman.

The Dark Knight Rises comes to theaters July 20th, starring Christian Bale, Tom Hardy,Anne Hathaway, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and Gary Oldman.
